Survey of names
-
Q:Why am I being asked to take part in a survey of names if the merger vote in July was unsuccessful?A:
More than 70% of Faculty and Institute members who were eligible to vote and who took part in the vote in July, voted in support of a merger. Joint Councils believe they would be failing those members if they did not understand more about the factors that influenced voting behaviours.
Respondents to an online survey in September indicated that the key issues that influenced voting behaviours were name and consultation on governing documents.
The survey of names will help Joint Councils understand members' views on this issue.
-
Q:How do I take part?A:
All members and students have been sent, by email or post, a short survey. The survey invites respondents to indicate their views on 14 possible names and post nominal letters.
The survey will close at 17.00 on 18 December 2009.

Q:How did Joint Councils come up with the list in the survey of names?A:
The process of developing a name began as part of a consultation carried out between November 2008 and January 2009. All members and students of the Faculty and the Institute were invited to take part in this consultation: 850 Faculty members and 3,621 Institute members responded and the responses were considered by Joint Councils in February 2009.

You can suggest an alternative name or post nominal letters in the survey of names.
Please remember that any name or post nominal letters must be appropriate and acceptable for members of the Faculty and the Institute. You may find it helpful to read more about the background to developing the list of names here
